Pantry Information

All Are Welcome

South Community Food Pantry is the largest food pantry in Berkshire County. Our pantry is run entirely by volunteers.

Getting Started

Please come to the pantry during pantry hours. When you arrive at the pantry, volunteers will collect the following information: your name, address, phone number, date of birth, and household members. Once you have signed up, you just have to 'check in' when you come again. Food is allocated based on the number of people in your family. You may access the food pantry once per week.

Food Delivery

Ours is the only food pantry in Berkshire County that delivers to individual homes. We currently deliver to about 500 families each week who are unable to come to the pantry in person, or who are unable to manage 20 pounds of groceries. As of February 2024 we have a wait list for food deliveries. We have seen increased need for food delivery and we are very much in need of volunteer drivers.

Community Partner Visits

Our food pantry has partnered with a number of community organizations to coordinate their visits to the pantry on a regular basis. We provide dedicated space for these organizations, allowing them to provide free services and resources to our community. Their presence at the pantry gives our clients the opportunity to have in-person conversations about essential issues instead of relying on phone calls and websites to obtain information. The calendar of these upcoming visits is updated monthly.

  • Thursday mornings: 7:30–11am + grab-and-go breakfast

Weather-Related Closure

The food pantry follows Pittsfield public school closings. (Check the closure status on the Pittsfield Public Schools website.)

If Pittsfield public schools are closed due to weather, the pantry will also be closed. The pantry will not provide an extra grab-and-go meal day. However, if you receive a home delivery and we are closed that day, you will receive your food the following day. Please make sure your steps and walkways are cleared of snow and ice so our drivers can get to you!

If Pittsfield public school openings are delayed, the pantry will be open as usual.
